Blog EntryThe only Bush I like is my ownAug 31, '04 11:13 AM
for everyone
RESPECT! to all who marched in New York by the thousands to oppose the administration’s foreign policies and to ‘unwelcome’ the 35th National Republican Convention (half of w/c is made up of Bush’s kin). It is a very good reminder that a lot of Americans still believe in true democracy--- in freedom of speech, in the right to self-determination (including that of the Iraqis) through global diplomacy, cooperation and inter-ethnic/faith tolerance and justice without the unnecessary bloodshed. Unfortunately, the republican evils know no bounds and their ethics illusory. They just had to hold their war-mongering-pitbull convention just a few miles off the site of 9-11 tragedy. This is immensely disrespectful to the New Yorkers and to those who lost their loved ones in the towers.

I spent all my morning watching the blowhards like Rudolf Gulliani and Sen McCain as they fib throughout their speeches, claiming that Saddam is the real WMD and that Bush made U.S. a much safer place now with the Iraq war! What sneaky hypocrites! There’s no denying that up to this date, their so-called war on terror haven’t brought them even an inch closer to prosecuting Osama Bin Laden, Al Quaeda or the real perpetuators of the 9-11 attacks. The republicans are trying to equate war on Iraq and war on terror, and in the process muddle up people’s perceptions that they have actually accomplished something. I think this is just first-class spin, if-you-can’t-win-em-CONFUSE-em tactic.

But what’s even cheaper is the fact that almost ¾ of the prominent speeches were democrat bashing and Kerry roorbacks. Shows how low they are willing to stoop down just to serve their own selfish agendas. A stark difference from the recently held Democrat convention, which of course is not free from spin, but at least they were civil, dignified and discouraged any direct political defamation.

I think this is the republican way of deflecting from the real issues that matters... I didn’t hear anything substantial about the failing economy, their stand on domestic issues, or why Bush refuses to grant the right as basic as the right to marry to gay people. Is war and pillaging all they have to offer? The war on terror is their only creed and panacea. Sen McCain sums it all, "Might makes right"... yep, with Bush around, WW3 will soon come.

The ONLY saving grace in this convention worth watching was the appearance of MICHAEL MOORE in the press box . When the angry mob found out, they started chanting "Four more years" for a few minutes, leaving Sen McCain in mid speech, struggling to calm down the people. Moore, clearly delighted with the boos and the jeers of the crowd, shouted back "2 MORE MONTHS!!!". I thought that was hilarious! Michael Moore didn’t even had to do ANYTHING to distract them. Then, Sen McCain attacked Farenheit 9-11 movie, commenting that people shouldn’t believe everything that is said, especially from a "disingenuous filmmaker" as Michael Moore. Maybe. Moore can be a bit overblown like anything produced in Hollywood, HOWEVER, I think this is a lot closer to truth than the Republican’s outright lies.

As expected, Bush got nominated for the 2nd time as the republican candidate for this upcoming elections. I hope that those who have the right to vote in America will use their votes wisely and remember that too many lives have already been lost to spurious patriotism and paranoia. Clearly, war is not the way.

Gulliani said its time to celebrate Bush’s ‘principled’ leadership and heroic response to 9-11.

I say its time to completely SHAVE OFF THAT BUSH.

Points well taken, I agree (dumb-blonde intellectual nod...j/k)...

...And, I am kind of wondering why Philippines/Pinoys are still so pro-America, US-crazed...or am I wrong here?

i think that pinoys (like me) being “pro-america” has nothing to do with being pro-bush and adhering to his politics. i am pro-america because i enjoy very much their basketball (nba), baseball (mlb), football (nfl), movies (i wouldn’t want to get caught watching a philippine movie. it’s not that i’m ashamed of my heritage but filipino movies really suck!) and music.

in fact, a lot of american rock musicians nowadays (e.g. green day, beastie boys) have been targeting bush in their songs.

what i’m saying is pro-america (for me at least) doesn’t necessarily mean pro-bush.

oh i almost forgot, i also love burgers, fries, pancakes and hotdogs. :)
