2008. The year that not only gave birth to the credit crunch but also to over a hundred new words that rocks the jellies off the modern day literati. So goodbye Bling and Chav, hello Nonebrities and Nomophobics!

Here are just some of my favourite and freshest words of the year...

Credit Crunch – No definition needed. Prolly the most pop of all in this list. bet it fares second only to ‘Beijing’ in the most used words category these days.

Ebay best buy: Plus-sized knickers + empty condom wrapper for size S

Why is it always down under?

In Canberra, Australia, a wife lashed back at her cheating hubby by auctioning off his mistress' lace undies on eBay. The listing was made by 'annastella007' and says the knickers "are so huge they make a nice shawl, even better, something for Halloween perhaps.". They also come with bonus with an empty condom wrapper size small that the wife found under the bed.

So what are you waiting for?

Happy eBay hunting!

São Paulo and Buenos Aires: Where Strangers are Friends

All our misfortunes from this trip – mugged at gunpoint, losing all our belonging on day 1, being swidled by the Brit embassy, haemorrhaging lots more cash and eventually having to give up some part of the scheduled trips <font face="georgia" ,font="" size="3">– was easily outweighed by the windfall of blessings.

For the first time, I felt so much goodness in the world and that you can actually depend on the kindness of strangers... We met the most amazing set of friends in Sao Paulo, who really took care of us and nurtured us – our minds, hearts and bellies! Particularly, Monica and the Araraki family, Silvio and Umberto who never tire driving us around, even as far as going panty-shopping with me. They fed us, gave us some threads and reassured us with their genuine friendship and humour. Now James and I are learning Paulista Portuguese just so we can come back and talk to them more!

The really sweet thing is when we got back to Britain, ...

A native of Buenos Aires.

After my loss, I vowed never to touch his kind.

Yet in MALBA, we met

and there he beguiled me.

My Plastic fantastic paramour.

We flirted. We tangoed.

on the streets of Argentina.

Such Random but careful steps

Of colours

Of Flitting moments.

The Fruits of our first rendezvous...

Both the Weird and the Wonderful.

Each may never again.

Warwick: Just one of those days...

It’s just one of those days.

James and I woke up early Saturday thinking... we ought to be doing something. Surely...

"Staying in" is the new rage these days

which makes it the old hat,

because everybody’s bloody into it!

And so we felt we must wander off.

And wander we did.

To Warwick.

I forgot how and why.

But we did.

And stayed overnight.

I wonder how and why.

Perhaps it’s our anniversary.

Or we missed the last train.

Nevermind.

We had a wicked time.

I think Warwick does that to people.

All that romance rubbish creeps in

Unknowingly.

You’re simply having fun before you even know it.

Just like That day we first met.

You’d probably imagine flamenco dancers, toreros in bullrings, flowing sangrias and tapas, fiestas that last forever, and feverish football. Well, all that imagery is a reality in everyday Sevilla.

This Andalucian capital is a caricature of anything and everything that is Spanish. Deeply traditional, a local lifestyle exists in a way that is no longer familiar in Europe. One can indulge in a tapas trail throughout the night, in the knowing certainty that Sangria will always outflow the river Guadalquivir, and at any time, the Sevillanos can break out into a flamenco trance, dancing until dawn. A bocadillo of the fiesta vibes, of savoury food and good company awaits every night.

<font face="georgia" ,font="" size="3">Nostalgia has also kept its presence in modern mechanics of Sevilla. Just like many hundreds of years ago, it remains the last threshold of the Old, where Columbus embarks from to discover the New World. Walk through its labyrinthine thoroughfares and the palm trees...

Prague: The Enchanted StoryBook City

<font face="georgia" ,font="" size="3">Prague is an enchanted storybook.

Strolling through its labyrinth of archways and medieval castles is turning over its pages of tales of melded fantasy and histories. Its people are skilled story weavers who barter their legends and myths to willing ears. One can easily and eagerly get drunk with czechies’ tall tales (and tall pints of black lager) and make believe they are flying amidst the three-headed dragons and gargoyles under the full moon, dancing with a bewitching marionette maiden(5), and wandering around town in search for Golem (4), defender of the Jews, made of clay, mud and dark magic.

One of the best places to be dazed with amazement is the Old Town Square (6). Here, you will find the Astronomical Clock (3). It has fascinated crowds for 600 years now, with its amusing carousel of the 12 apostles, Greed, Vanity, a Turk holding a bag of coins and Death smiling at Judas. The clock chimes and a cock crows, both blessing and cursing the town at every stroke of the hour. ...

We arrived from the airport to our hotel at 3am awhile ago and as soon as we got down the cab, a man pointed his gun towards us, and later towards me to get all our bags. James had to shield me from it and had to beg to let us go. Thug then drove off with our luggages, my camera bag and backpack containing my 40d, money, watches, mopbile phones, ipod, passports, etc etc

Now helplessly lost in translation, especially with the police.
CANON 400D vs NIKON D80

Can you help me? I'm doing a bit of research on which dslr to buy. I've been putting this off for the longest time cuz I am scared with the amount of stuff I need to consider. I hate shopping, I can be so anal about these things and will never forgive myself should I later on realise I chose wrongly. (argh!)

ANYWAY, I've been sieving through net reviews and so on and have narrowed down my choices into two models - Canon 400d and Nikon d80. What do you think? Which one should I choose? I don't mind investing a fair amount of money into a camera so long as it has really good features and value for money.

I'm a bit more inclined to go for Nikon. But because it is very expensive for me, I am needing a little reassurance from other people that this is the right choice. I know nothing about dslrs as of now but would want to pursue this as a serious hobby.

Another option I'm considering is buying Canon - body only and investing on a wicked lens (gawd knows wot this means cuz I'm I...

Frankfurt: Where Staying In is the new Going Out

Chilling out with my best friend and her family beats cutting edge clubbing ANY day. So when I heard she was organising a bachelorette party for another friend, I didn’t hesitate posing as a helping hand. By Friday, we firmed up the plans and by Thursday night, I was there.

Friday was all chika fun and baking goodness. Lala is a dessert deity who makes everything from nothing, and it’s a joy to witness her magic in the kitchen. Not only are her cakes over-the-moon yummy, but they are
 visual feasts too!

Saturday was a mad rush. But we were both in our element, afterall, bachelorette parties is OUR thing. Having pulled an all-nighter to finish our very own Titi cake (through a handjob), we set the place and the games Lala has prepared in the afternoon.

By 4:00 pm the do kicked-off. Everyone came…err…including the kids. The party was a pre-planned debauchery and was never meant for a family day, so my nerves were shot with panic as the stream of babies came through…

Lisbon: "I came, I saw, I conquered!"

If only my new boots could talk, it’ll be sputtering curses at me by now. It had a hellish time in Lisbon either clambering up a hill or hopscotching down the cobbled streets at 90m/ph. Now the pair is bent as Pete Doherty, and with a crooked grin.

But the owner herself is happy. Conquering Lisbon, the powerhouse of the first global empire spanning across six centuries of colonial rule, is good as gold in the coffers. Atop one of the seven hills of Lisbon, one could see what the Portuguese voyagers from the age of discovery have seen– farway horizons of the Atlantic promising the world - and that is priceless than those boots!

Alfama is one place for such view. But much more beautiful is when you ‘look in’. This quarter, well preserved from the ravages of the 1755 earthquake or modernity, is quaint and very old. The winding and narrow cobbled streets… the antiquated buildings, wrought irons, churches… one could get lost in the maze and be deceived its 14th century once again.

Hongkong: My Limbo Land

Traversing between my two homes from opposite sides of the globe is much more complicated than simply crossing borders. Not only do I need to acclimatize to a different weather, but I also need to be fine-tuned to different cultural and social presets.

I always go by Hong kong before I go to Manila or back to London. Hong Kong, for me, is a perfect place to ‘depressurize’ and ‘pump up’ ----unload the remnants of my life from another world like work, friends, etc… and get myself excited to enter another one. Having a mini-break in between also lessen the shock at the end of the journey---- that is, the shock of realising how much I change every time I return, whichever direction I came from.

Physically, Hong Kong is conveniently wedged between the east and west, a great conduit for flight travel between London and Manila. On other respects, it’s like our little secret garden, where we are kept amused and free of worries. We can be comfortable enough not to get ourselves lost ...

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia 07

It's a shame that we really just enjoyed KL for an afternoon because of all that kerfuffle about us leaving our money on the plane... the plane having to go through half way around Asia before returning back to KL.. and eventually, back to us--- leaving us restless and stressed for the first couple of days. But KL is a lovely place we think. Awesome food (we love Malaysian food!). Cheap. Friendly people... what more can we ask for?
